Letter from Bishop Tobin regarding the COVID 19 vaccinations
Dear Parishioners,
It certainly has been a year like no other and yet, thankfully, our faith continues to sustain us. Our journey through Advent is hopefully preparing us to celebrate Christmas, Emmanuel -God is with us. Many things will change out of necessity this year but the truth remains that God loves us so very much that He became one with us.
Jesus was no stranger to the difficulties of life. The Holy Family had its struggles. We cannot forget that "there was no room in the inn" for Mary and Joseph, their flight into Egypt to protect the child Jesus from harm, the daily struggles of family life in Nazareth but more importantly the love they shared and their faith in God that sustained them. Hopefully our love and faith will guide us through these days.
Although Mass attendance is necessarily limited I invite all to celebrate Christmas by watching the celebration of our parish Mass on our website www .saintjuderi.com.
We are indeed blessed to be able to make this possible through the efforts of so many dedicated parishioners and staff members.
We pray that the peace and joy that the Christ child brings during this holy season will truly take root in your heart and bring you and your loved ones the reassurance and comfort that only faith in God can give.
Wishing you a blessed Christmas,
Father Bernie, Sister Mary, Deacon Bud, and Staff
Public Celebration of Masses in Church
A Message from Fr. Bernie:
As you have undoubtedly heard on the news or read in the paper, we will be able to resume celebrating public Masses next weekend, May 30th and 31st, the great feast of Pentecost.
Needless to say, there are many regulations that have been put in place by the Governor and the Diocese to keep people safe when they attend Mass. It has been no small task to plan, prepare and ready the church to celebrate Mass. I would be remiss if I did not thank the parish staff and some volunteers who have stepped forward to help and who also helped to keep our church open during the pandemic. Our maintenance staff were constantly cleaning and sanitizing so that people would be able to make a visit.
It was necessary for us to make some changes in order to meet the guidelines to celebrate Mass. Change is never easy but sometimes necessary, so please be patient and understanding. The parish staff has worked hard to make this happen. Remember, nothing is perfect.
There will have to be a change in our Mass schedule in order to clean the church between masses. The new Mass schedule is:
Saturday - 4 pm
Sunday – 8:30 am and 11:00 am
We are looking for volunteers to wipe down pews and door handles after Masses. At least six volunteers per Mass would be needed. We will provide disposable gloves and the necessary spray and wipes. Please call the Office if you would be willing to help (725-8140).
Important points to remember:
(1) The Bishop continues to dispense everyone in the Diocese from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass and Holy Day Masses until further notice;
(2) It is not necessary to receive Holy Communion at Mass, and one can legitimately remain in one’s seat;
(3) If someone feels sick or displays symptoms, that person must not, under any circumstances, attend the celebration of Mass;
(4) Singing is to be limited as far as possible;
(5) Parishioners must wear masks and practice proper hand hygiene.
(6) Parishioners must maintain 6 feet distance between each other (families of the same household excluded) and avoid congregating in the aisles of the church.
We look forward to being able to celebrate Mass together again. If you have any questions, please call the Parish Office.
